Family Therapy
Rebuild trust, heal together, and thrive as a family.
Family Therapy in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and online across Pennsylvania.
At coeo we know every family is unique, dynamic, and full of complexity. You may be navigating big transitions, long-standing patterns, or subtle undercurrents of disconnection. Our family therapy offering gives you a safe, collaborative space where every member matters. A place where your story is seen, your voice is heard, and your bond can be strengthened.
Our Approach to Family Therapy: Healing Through Connection and Understanding
Systemic & Attachment-Based Focus
We look at how attachment styles, family history, and emotional context shape how you relate. We help you understand how past patterns echo in present behavior and how you can respond differently.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Families
EFT helps your family see the emotional undercurrents behind conflict. We guide each member to feel more seen, understood, and connected—not just tolerated.Conflict Resolution and Narrative-Shift Tools
Arguments aren’t the enemy, it’s the cycle you get caught in. We provide communication tools, guided questions, and structured conversations that help families engage differently. We also help you re-author the narrative you share: “We are stuck” becomes “We are learning to connect.”Trauma-Informed Strategies
Whether one member has experienced loss, medical challenge, or relational trauma, we integrate stabilization, nervous system awareness, and relational safety so the family can expand beyond survival mode.
Practical, Everyday Work
Between sessions you’ll receive small, meaningful tasks, not busy work but invitations: a conversation to try, a check-in to practice, an observation to notice. Change happens not only in the room, but in your kitchen table, car rides, and bedtime routines.
When Family Therapy Can Help
If…
-
Communication feels like a game of mis-translations.
-
Conflict goes around and around with no real change.
-
You are navigating transitions like divorce, remarriage, blended families, or first-generation parenting.
-
Trauma or historical patterns are shaping how you relate.
-
You want to deepen connection, not just reduce discomfort.
Then family therapy with coeo can help you move from surviving together to truly thriving together.
What to Expect During Family Therapy at coeo
Family therapy is a collaborative and structured process designed to help you understand the deeper patterns shaping your relationships. We create space for every voice to be heard, without judgment or blame. The goal is not perfection, but progress, learning new ways to connect, communicate, and navigate conflict with empathy and respect.
Each family’s process looks different. Some come in during a crisis, others to strengthen connection before small issues grow. No matter where you begin, we’ll move at a pace that feels safe, supportive, and effective for your family’s needs.
First Session
We invite each member to speak and be heard. We map your story, explore what’s working and what’s strained, and identify goals that feel authentic to your family.
Session Length
Sessions are typically 90 minutes for families to allow space for multiple voices. Many start weekly and then move to bi-weekly or monthly once stability is rebuilding.
Participation
Everyone matters. We’ll invite older children, caregivers, and partners as appropriate. We’ll also design breakout space when needed (e.g., parent-only check-in).
Duration
Some families feel major relief in a few months. Others engage long-term while navigating transitions or trauma. Our goal is to support you until you feel securely connected and functioning together.
If Change Stalls
You don’t have to wait. We’ll reassess together and may introduce intensives, separate coaching, or structure shifts to keep your traction strong.

The Framework Behind Family Therapy at coeo
Family therapy at coeo integrates multiple evidence-based and relational frameworks designed to help families heal together rather than apart. Our therapists draw from approaches that emphasize safety, emotional awareness, and systems thinking, so each member of the family can understand their role in the larger pattern and begin to relate differently.
Looks at the family as a whole system, not just individual behaviors. We explore how communication, boundaries, and roles interact, helping families shift from blame to understanding and collaboration.
Helps families recognize the emotions underneath conflict and unmet needs. We guide parents, children, and caregivers in learning how to respond to one another with empathy and connection instead of reactivity.
Many family struggles come from disrupted or insecure attachment patterns. We help family members rebuild trust and safety by strengthening the emotional bond that holds them together.
Families often carry stress or trauma that affects how they connect. We support each member in understanding their nervous system responses, creating safety for healing and authentic communication.
We teach practical tools and emotional strategies that help caregivers support their children without losing themselves in the process. This includes understanding developmental needs, co-regulation, and healthy boundaries.
We help families reframe their story—from “we are broken” to “we are learning to connect.” By identifying strengths and shared values, families begin to build a new, more compassionate narrative together.
Investing in your care
We operate as a private-pay practice, which means we choose to not bill insurance directly. Private pay aligns with our values and means we answer to you, not them. It means we can offer the personalized care you deserve. Longer sessions if needed, treatment plans that evolve with you, not with arbitrary session limits. No diagnoses weaponized in permanent records. No justifying your humanity to meet “medical necessity” criteria. Just real therapy, built around your actual needs. We also provide superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and help you navigate that process.

Reduced-Fee Options: We also hold a limited number of reduced-fee slots because we believe healing shouldn’t only be accessible to people with disposable income. If cost is a barrier, let’s talk. We’d rather work something out than have you go without the support you deserve. We also offer therapy with highly trained graduate interns at a reduced rate per session. This option provides more affordable access to care while offering interns strong clinical supervision and support.
